King of the Zombies (1941), the Monogram zombie comedy that got an Oscar nomination. Mantan Moreland steals it. Watch the full movie free online, no account.
A plane goes down near a Caribbean island, the survivors take shelter with a courteous doctor, and the household staff are not at all well. Mantan Moreland plays the valet who works out what is happening long before anyone with more lines does, and his timing is the reason the film is still worth an evening.
Bela Lugosi was wanted for the doctor and was not available. Monogram went after Peter Lorre, could not make a deal, and signed Henry Victor practically on the eve of shooting.
Edward J. Kay's score was nominated for an Academy Award, so for one year a Monogram zombie picture sat on the same ballot as Citizen Kane.
