The finding, and the working behind it
Non-renewal, verified 9 September 2026. No RE registration exists for this 1959 film, whose renewal fell due in 1987; the search was run on a single distinctive term with the full result set read and the count exact. The title card reads "The Killer Shrews. Hollywood Pictures Corporation." Not searched: music, underlying works, or anything outside the United States.

A negative search proves that no record was found, which is not identical to proving that no record exists. The Copyright Office says as much about its own catalogs. Where a search could not be decisive we say so above rather than rounding it up to certainty.
