Not public domain: renewed as RE0000258469 on 3 September 1985 by Howco Productions, in copyright to the end of 2052.
The cleanest search in this register. One renewal registration in the motion picture class contains the word "arous", and it is this film, filed under its exact title by Howco Productions in September 1985.
No spelled-out number, no stray article, no successor claimant. The renewal is simply there under the name everybody knows the film by, which makes the "public domain" label harder to explain than usual. Nobody was tricked by a catalog entry here. Nobody searched.
