A logging foreman in the Canadian woods is beaten half to death, and the doctor, short on options, transfuses him with blood taken from a wolf. He starts dreaming about running with a pack, men around the camp start dying, and the film never once commits to telling you whether anything supernatural happened. That refusal is the whole trick.
George Chesebro starred and co-directed with the serial veteran Bruce Mitchell, for Ryan Brothers, on the sort of budget where the phantom wolves are double exposures.
It gets called the first werewolf movie. It is not, quite: that was a 1913 short, now lost. It is the earliest one anybody can still watch.
