The Vampire Bat (1933) with Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray and Dwight Frye, a poverty row horror shot on Universal's borrowed village. Watch the full movie free.
Bodies turn up in a European village drained of blood, the locals reach for the obvious explanation, and Lionel Atwill's Dr. von Niemann is very willing to help them think it through. Fay Wray does the screaming, Melvyn Douglas does the investigating, and Dwight Frye plays the village oddity who is fond of bats, which in 1933 was practically a confession.
Majestic Pictures was a poverty row outfit that had somehow booked two real stars, and to hold the cost down it shot at night on Universal's standing European village set, the one Frankenstein's mob had marched through two years earlier.
It looks far more expensive than it was, which was the whole idea.
