The Trap (1922): Lon Chaney with no makeup at all, shot in Yosemite, from a story he wrote with Irving Thalberg. Watch the whole silent film free online.

No hump, no false teeth, no hidden face. Chaney plays Gaspard, a gentle trapper in the Canadian northwest who has his mine claim and his sweetheart taken off him by a smoother man, and spends the rest of the picture working out what he is willing to do about it. It is one of the best straight performances he left behind.

The story is his own, written with Lucien Hubbard and a young Irving Thalberg, who was running production at Universal in his early twenties at the time. Robert Thornby directed, and a good deal of it was shot in Yosemite.

British distributors released it as Heart of a Wolf, which tells you what they thought they were selling.
