A student goes to Luckenbach, Texas to study the German settlements of the hill country, pulls a stake out of a grave, and gets what you would expect. It runs barely an hour, and ten minutes of that is a lecture on the history of witchcraft delivered over paintings by Hieronymus Bosch.
That lecture is the best part, though not for the reasons intended. The narrator is Gary Owens, uncredited, years before he became the announcer on Laugh-In, giving a wildly unreliable account of it in the most authoritative voice in America.
Buchanan shot it in 1960 on eight thousand dollars from a drive-in owner who wanted nudity and got very little. It took eighty thousand, which is why he kept working.
