A defense attorney gets his client acquitted, then works out that she was guilty and that he was the tool she used. She cannot be tried again, so he settles it himself. Raymond Burr is the lawyer, Angela Lansbury is the client, and the picture opens with him alone in his office telling a tape recorder that he will be dead in fifty-five minutes.
Burr made it the year before Perry Mason went on the air, which gives the legal scenes an odd double exposure now. Lansbury was thirty and had been getting cast as the untrustworthy one since Gaslight.
Peter Godfrey directed. The copyright notice on the prints was incomplete, so it fell out of copyright almost immediately.
